This is the Way (The Bourbon Dad MO)

Bourbon Dad makes small batches of custom apparel, focusing on 12"x10" [or smaller] DTF transfers to cotton or mostly cotton shirts. I believe in honesty, so here's a breakdown of my process in hopes it more quickly let's you know whether or not we might be a good fit.

Small Batch Custom Apparel

We make the stuff we sell—no retail, no resale—unless specifically noted. Most of my designs are from scratch, but many are inspired by or are my twist of something I've seen on the bourbon trail or just in life in general and thought was fun. I'll also be transparent about those moments of inspiration when I "steal like an artist." I will never put out a design that knowingly infringes on someone else's copyright or legal intellectual property.

I can help you come up with a design or plug an existent design (mine or yours) right in.

I'm not a big production, so if your run is too large, I might not be able to get it to you in the timeline you need.

12" by 10" Designs

I'm a small operation, and [until I grow] right now that's the largest I can make a single print. I can, however, make a larger design by compositing multiple prints together.

For example, if you wanted your friend Dave's floating head wearing a graduation cap on a shirt and beneath it you wanted the text "Dave's School of Bourbon", we could make the entire design larger by making it with a 12 x 10 graphic of Dave's goofy head above a 12 x 10 graphic containing the text.

DTF Transfers

Bourbon Dad does DTF ("direct-to-film") heat transfers, where I fuse a t-shirt with a design via a heat press. The DTF transfers I use have been tested to survive 100+ washes without fading, chipping, or peeling, and I can apply them to almost any flat surface on item.

My operation does not include screen printing, which would come with an extra setup fee and is often better for particularly large orders.

Preference for Cotton

Among other reasons, I like to use cotton or high cotton blends because...

  1. I find them comfortable.
  2. I find they hold transfers well.
  3. I find they don't hold onto BO after a wash like high poly blends often do.

Shirts

We focus on cotton t-shirts, but we can do any item or material that will hold a transfer.

And we're looking into hats...

Pricing

My pricing varies from project to project, but my calculations are straightforward:

  • Material costs
  • Shipping costs
  • Enough margin to make it worth my time and effort

Every dollar I make from Bourbon Dad helps me be more of the sustainable, self-employed dad I want to be. Supporting Bourbon Dad supports a local Louisville, KY family, not just some branch of a mega corporation with a fancy website and a big marketing budget.

I do all transactions as invoices, and each invoice will add transfer fees and sales tax (cash transactions are exempt from transfer fees and non-profits may be exempt from sales tax).

Timing

Each order is custom made with your personal deadlines in mind. If I don't think I can get it to you before your deadline, I won't accept your money.

Once an invoice has been paid, I'll start working on fulfillment in order to get the shipment to you by [a few days before] your stated deadline.

Rush orders may be available, and will come with extra costs.
